FAA Takes Type Club, EAA/VAA RecommendationsIssues AMOC For Taylorcraft Wing Struts The FAA embraced the recommendations of EAA, the Vintage Aircraft Association, and type clubs including the Taylorcraft Foundation last week by approving the use of radiograph (x-ray) to inspect for internal corrosion on T-Craft A, B, and F series steel wing struts. The Airplane Certification Office (ADW-150) issued the Alternative Method of Compliance (AMOC) for Airworthiness Directive 2007-16-14 on November 8. Originally, the FAA specified that owners use the eddy current or ultrasonic non-destructive testing (NDT) methods to comply with the AD. As a result, many affected owner-operators provided feedback to the FAA and both EAA and VAA regarding the corrosion issue. VAA Executive Director H.G. Frautschy and EAA’s industry & regulatory affairs staff gathered the public feedback, contacted the FAA engineer responsible for the AD, and conducted independent research before crafting comments that were submitted in early October.
